Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park Undergoing Renovations

Atlanta’s downtown Centennial Olympic Park, home of events such as the annual Shaky Beats, Shaky Knees, and SweetWater 420 music festivals, is getting a makeover.

Improvements to the park and surrounding area include a new promenade connecting the College Football Hall of Fame with the park’s Olympic Rings fountain, the conversion of Andrew Young International Boulevard to a pedestrian walkway, a new Special Event Center at the northwestern corner of the park, and renovations to the Southern Company Amphitheater.

According to an April 2017 announcement from the Georgia World Class Center Authority, all construction activity at the park is expected to be completed by January of 2019. The 2017 Shaky Beats, Shaky Knees, and Sweetwater 420 fests went on as construction continued. The announcement specifically mentions that the 2018 Sweetwater festival will be held a the park, but there’s no mention of Shaky Beats and Shaky Knees 2018. Although both fests have “see you next year” messages on their websites, 2018 information has not yet been posted. Sweetawater 420 Fest has already announced their 2018 dates (April 20 -22) and lineup (including Upmprey’s McGree, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Sturgill Simpson).
