The Asylum nightclub in Portland, Maine is getting a makeover and a new name. When the club reopens in April, it will go by the name of Aura.
According to a February 17th article in the Bangor Daily News, the club renovations include a new sound system and other onstage and back stage enhancements, plus a redesigned space with a greatly increased capacity. The expanded venue can now handle 1,000 concert-goers.
The new space will operate as a multiple-genre club, hosting a variety of concerts and also serving as an event space for weddings and small conferences.
Performers already lined up for the renovated venue include Dwight Yoakam, Bret Michaels, Jimmy Eat World, Buddy Guy, and Wynonna Judd.
